Built at Kockums Shipyard as newbuilding 357. She was delivered in June 1953. California could take 1.400 tons bunker in her doublebottomtanks. California was equipped with two Kockum-MAN 7-cylinder two - stroke double-acting dieselengine D7Z 72/120A on 16.400 i.h.p. She have seven hatches and ten 3-tons Asea deck cranes and four 5-tons cranes. She has an whole welded hull and built as an open shelterdecker, from the beginning she was planished to go as an closed shelterdecker. In 1963 she was modernised at Aalborg Vaerft A/S and rebuild for havey fuel oil and the hatches was rebuild with Mac Gregor hatch covers.She was upload in Helsingborg 1975 and was taken  together with Silver Gate to Aalborg 1977 and sold to United Shipping Management, Liberia and registered in Singapore with Indian command and Indonesian crew. She was renamed in Kiel to United Vitality and she depart Hamburg in July for Persian Gulf. Sold for scrapping, she arrived at Nan Kwang Steel & Iron, Kaohsiung, Taiwan 1978 for dismantling.The scrapping commenced 17 January 1979. She was on 9000 Dw.ton and had a speed at 22,6 knots. California´s first commander was F. Ranke and chiefengineer E. Overgaard.
