Built new at Kockums Shipyard as hull number 315. She was delivered in August 1950. Lions Gate could take 1.400 tons bunker in her double-bottom tanks. Lions Gate was equipped with two Kockum-MAN 7-cylinder two - stroke double-acting diesel engine D7Z 72/120A delivering 16.400 i.h.p. She had seven hatches and ten 3-tons Asea deck cranes and four 5-tons cranes. She had an all-welded hull and was built as an open shelterdecker, and orginally planed to go as a closed shelterdecker. In 1964 she was modernized at Rheinstahl Nordseewerke in Emden and rebuild for heavy fuel oil and the hatches rebuilt with Mac Gregor hatch covers. Sold 1973 to Ugland in Grimstad for 605.000 $ and she was rebuilt in Singapore to sheep transport vessel. Sold under the new name Farid Fares to Lebanon. On voyage from Fremantle to Bandar Mahshahr she get fire in engine room in Lat.38´ 20S, Long.136´ 20E. on 27 March 1980 which spread and crew abandoned the vessel; Subsequently drifted and last reported sighting was in Lat. 37´ 52S. Long. 136´21E. on 28 March 1980 still burning fiercely. She sunk with 40000 sheep onboard 28 March 1980. She weighed 9000 Dw.tons and had a speed of 22,6 knots. Lions Gates first commander was F.Ranke and chief engineer S.T.Strandberg.
