M/S Star Alcyone I

• Built as hull number 179 (MC hull number 30)(MC type T.C2) at Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., Chester, Pa. as Mormacgull for MooreMcCormack Lines.
• Equipped with one 2-stroke, 4 cylinder single-acting Doxford Diesel delivering 6.000 i.h.p. and she had a speed at 15,5 knots.   
• Keel laid 12 January 1939, Launched 28 August 1939. .
• Purchased by the Navy 31 May 1941 from Moore McCormack Line; converted by Boston Navy Yard, Boston, Mass. and classified as USS ALCYONE (AK24) and commissioned as a Cargo Ship15 June 1941.
• She was reclassified as an Attack Cargo Ship AKA-7, 26 November 1942.
• She departed Norfolk Navy Yard, Portsmouth, Va. She was decommissioned there 23 July 1946.
• Transfered to the Maritime commision for disposal, 24 July 1946.
• Struck from the Naval Register, 15 August 1946.
• Sold 17 March 1947 to Compania Naviera Puerta del Sur, Panama owned by Johnson.
• Rebuild at Eriksberg Shipyard, Gothenburg 1948.
• Sold for scrapping, she arrived at Kaohsiung, Taiwan 17 May 1969 for dismantling.
• Alcyone recived eight battle stars for her participation in World War II
